Presentation: “Drumming Tools For Accuracy”
Mike began his drum education taking lessons at the Bellevue Music Center in 1970. Additionally, he took lessons through his School Band Program and studied drum set privately with George Frost. When he was 14, he started playing professionally with the Joe Nigro Combo and Hank Braunhardt Band. In high school, Mike played in the All-Ohio Band and All-Ohio State Fair Band. Following high school, he attended Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and studied percussion with Wendell Jones. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from BGSU.
Mike is currently the Music Department Coordinator and Director of Percussion at Terra State Community College. He also directs the Terra State Contemporary Ensemble and Terra State Percussion Ensemble and performs with many of the Terra State Performing groups. He also currently plays in a local band called Stranger than Fiction. Prior to coming to Terra State, Mike was an Assistant Band Director and Percussion Instructor at Woodmore High School.
Mike is a member of the Professional Drum Teacher’s Guild, The National Association of Rudimental Drummers (NARD), The U.S. Association of Rudimental Drummers, The Sabian Education Network, and The Vic Firth Education Team. He is also an active clinician, and endorses several companies including Vic Firth Drumsticks, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, Dynasty Marching Drums, Stone Custom Drums, Duallist Bass Drum Pedals, Tru Tuner Drum tuners, Beatnik Rhythmic Analyzers and JR Drum Publications.
